The Matrimoine's days highlight the cultural, historical, architectural, sculptural, social and artistic heritage passed down by women, by analogy with the Patrimoine (Heritage) days, created by men.
For this fifth edition, the Charliequeen collective asked me to showcase this year’s heroines who are as follows :
⚘ La Kahina
Dihya, also known by the nickname Al Kahina or Al Kahena amongst the Arabs, was a Berber warrior queen who fought against the Umayyads during the Muslim conquest of the Maghreb in the 7th century.
★ Hiercheuse
A ‘hiercheuse’ (or ‘hercheur’ in the masculine form) is a female worker who pushed or pulled coal trolleys in underground mines.
⚢ Suzan Daniel
Suzanne De Pues, better known by the pseudonym Suzan Daniel, was born in Brussels in 1918 and died in Uccle on 15 November 2007. She was a Belgian lesbian activist who founded Belgium’s first gay group.
